Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa, offers a spectacular climbing experience with diverse landscapes, rich wildlife, and stunning views. A typical 5-day climb usually follows the Sirimon route up and the Chogoria route down, providing a balanced mix of scenery and acclimatization.

Tour Plan

  • Morning:
    • Depart from Nairobi early in the morning.
    • Drive to Nanyuki (approx. 4-5 hours).
    • Meet your mountain guide and porters in Nanyuki.
    • Proceed to Sirimon Gate (2,650m).
  • Afternoon:
    • Start the trek from Sirimon Gate to Old Moses Camp (3,300m) (approx. 9km, 3-4 hours).
    • The trek passes through montane forest, bamboo, and giant heather zones.
  • Evening:
    • Arrive at Old Moses Camp, settle in, and have dinner.
    • Overnight at Old Moses Camp.
  • Morning:
    • Early breakfast at Old Moses Camp.
    • Start the trek to Shipton's Camp (4,200m) (approx. 14km, 6-8 hours).
    • The trek traverses the scenic Mackinder Valley, with views of Batian and Nelion peaks.
  • Afternoon:
    • Stop for a picnic lunch along the way.
    • Continue trekking to Shipton's Camp.
  • Evening:
    • Arrive at Shipton's Camp, rest and acclimatize.
    • Dinner and overnight at Shipton's Camp.
  • Morning:
    • Breakfast at Shipton's Camp.
    • Optional acclimatization hike to Kami Hut (4,300m) or towards the Hausberg Col (4,590m).
  • Afternoon:
    • Return to Shipton's Camp for lunch.
    • Rest and acclimatize further.
  • Evening:
    • Dinner and overnight at Shipton's Camp.
  • Early Morning:
    • Wake up at around 2:00 AM for a pre-dawn summit attempt.
    • Start the trek to Point Lenana (4,985m) (approx. 3-4 hours).
    • Reach the summit at sunrise for spectacular views.
  • Morning:
    • Descend to Mintos Hut (4,200m) on the Chogoria Route.
    • Breakfast at Mintos Hut.
  • Afternoon:
    • Descend further to Meru Bandas (2,950m) (approx. 4-5 hours).
    • Trek through beautiful landscapes including Gorges Valley and Lake Michaelson.
  • Evening:
    • Arrive at Meru Bandas, settle in for dinner and overnight stay.
  • Morning:
    • Breakfast at Meru Bandas.
    • Trek to Chogoria Gate (approx. 10km, 2-3 hours).
    • Meet the transfer vehicle at Chogoria Gate.
  • Afternoon:
    • Drive back to Nairobi (approx. 5-6 hours).
    • Stop for lunch en route.
  • Evening:
    • Arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon or early evening.
